How to perform pooja at home: Simple, standard and detailed pooja
Performing Hindu pooja at home is a daily traditional ceremony or ritual that Hindus believe in to get blessings from god. Even lord Krishna has said that if flowers, leaf and fruits are offered in devotion and love to him, he will accept it. Not only daily but there are various types of Hindu pooja at home which are performed in specific occasions and for different purposes or situations. You need to know the ritual or pooja‘s procedure and ingredients one needs to perform it. Along with that, you also should know the significance and importance of these Hindu pooja at home.
Simple and Detailed pooja at home
There are two basic types of performing Hindu pooja at home depending upon how much time and detailing you are doing in procedure. The simple pooja which one should perform at least daily at home in a managed time beholds these activities.
- Prayers to the god and thanking him for everything he has given
- Enchanting prayers or reciting chalisa or any holy writings in appreciation of god.
- Praying and asking for what you want or sharing your thoughts to feel connective to him
- Offering him flowers, Prasad (fruits, sweet etc.)
The simple Hindu pooja at home should be performed by every Hindu after taking bath which requires 5 to 15 minutes only around.
If you are more religious and understand the significance of Hindu pooja at home, you can perform more detailed pooja elaborated with prayers, procedures, offering etc. which can take more than half an hour and less than one hour.
Standard pooja: Between the simple and detailed pooja, you can also customize it according to you as there are no such rules of structure so according to your faith, you can perform simple pooja adding some primary elements of detailed pooja like dhyana, deep, Dhoop, Archana and Naivediyam or prasadam.

A detailed pooja according to Indian holy Vedas should have 16 processes or steps to be performed. So, if you are going for Hindu pooja at home, make sure that all these steps are covered specifically with devotion and love – Dhyana ( prayer), Avahana( Invocation), Aasana ( seat offering), Padya( feet washing), Arghya( hand washing), Aachman( drinking water offering) , Snana( panchmurthas water bathing), vastras ( new clothes), yajnopavita ( thread of sacredness), gandha( sandal paste), Archana ( flower offerings), Dhoop( incense sources) ,Deep( oil lamp),Naivediyam( food offering specifically made for god), Tamboolam( Betel leaves and betel nuts offering) and at last the Hindu pooja at home will end with Aarti.
Significance of Pooja: The procedure, ingredients and particular order of performing Hindu pooja at home is essential as it connect the person to the dear lord where he bless his devotees after such gestures. Each step and offering has symbolic meaning and significance like Dhoop in pooja where incense signifies to fill the fragrance in the body to get positive and pure vibe and transcend the soul to god.
