Kavalam in Tamil means a place of dense flower garden. Lord Krishna wanted to spend happy times with Bama in a place as beautiful as Dwaraka. Kavalampadi is one such place. Even today, this is a very fertile spot. The place is considered equal to North Dwaraka. It is this temple Lord Krishna planted the Parijatha tree very dear to Bama. The Lord gave darshan to Lord Shiva and Senainayakar. Though small in size, this is a very beautiful temple.Being one of the 108 Divya Desas, during the Tamil month Thai, January-February, next to the new moon day, the deities of 11 temples assemble here for Garuda Seva according to tradition. Thirumangai Azhwar visits the place to offer his Mangalasasanam to all the Perumals-deities. When the paddy crop waves by the wind, the devotees here consider it that Thirumangai Azhwar has come to the place.
