In a horoscope, if Sevvai (Mars in English and sevvai in Tamil) is in the 7th, 8th houses from the Lagna or Chandran or Sukran, the horoscope is deemed to suffer from Sevvai Dosham. A horoscope with Sevvai Dosham should not be considered as matching for marriage with a horoscope which does not suffer from Sevvai Dosham. This is the general rule. If a horoscope with Sevvai Dosham is married to a horoscope without Sevvai Dosham, it is feared that the life of the spouse will be endangered. It need not necessarily be a demise. In modern days, it can be taken the other way around also. In the case of incompatible Sevvai Doshams, it may, instead of risking the life of the spouse, may result in a long term separation, legal separation (divorce) or frequently disrupted marital relationships, taking away the peace of mind.

What is Sevvai Dosham?

That a jathagam is afflicted by Sevvai Dosham or Kuja Dosham is defined by the position of Mars in a jathakam. Take your jathakam. From your lagna, find out if Mars is in 2, 4, 7, 8 10 or 12th positions. Note that you should start counting from the lagna position. If you have Sevvai dosham, you have to perform appeasing ceremony [Sevvai Dosha Parikaram] for the planet Mars or Lord Kuja. But, there are exceptions to the rule. If you were born on Mesha, Vrischika, Makaram or Katakam lagna or rasi, you are not affected by this Sevvai dosham.

If you were born on Mrigashirsham, Chithirai, Avittam nakshatras, then you are not affected by Sevvai dosham.

If your lagna or 7th house is seen by Guru, then you are not affected by Sevvai dosham. If you are a woman and your 8th house is seen by Guru, then you are not affected by this dosham.

If the 7th house is Mesham, Vrischikam, Makaram, Katakam then you do not have this dosham. If you are a woman and the Mesham, Vrischikam, Makaram or Katakam lagnas are placed in your 8th house then you do not have Kuja dosham.

Sevvai Dosha Parikaram

To get relief from Sevvai dosham, on tuesdays, during the Sevvai Horai, which is the sunrise time, light 5 lamps in your pooja room and pray to Lord Subramanya or Goddess Durga.

Pay frequent visits to the Subramanya temple and pray Lord Muruga. Make prayers to Lord Sevvai in the temple. Make archana ritual for Lord of Mars.

Feed animals as much as possible.
